A prankster tricked Jared Kushner attorney Abbe Lowell into thinking he was Kushner – then made increasingly bizarre claims about having porn on email exchanges with White House officials.

The prankster, who uses the Twitter account @SINON_REBORN, fooled Lowell into discussing confidential business with his client by using the email address kushner.jared@mail.com, and reaching out for help about whether it's okay to purge emails.

The prankster played off the timing of some real news: the discovery that Kushner and five other White House officials had used private email accounts.

Posing as Kushner, he wrote in an email that he had uncovered material of a 'sensitive nature' in his private account.

'Namely: some exchanges with a website featuring adult content,' he wrote.

Can I remove these?' the prankster wanted to know.
'Forwarded or received from WH officials?' Lowell wanted to know.
The prankster reeled in Lowell, considered a top defense attorney, by stating that a single message came from a fellow White House employee.

'I think one was forwarded from a White House official, we had discussed a shared interest of sorts,' the prankster wrote. 'It was unsolicited. Then there are a handful more, but not from officials.'

The Lowell proceeded to dispense legal advice, but in the process revealed that he apparently hasn't read all of Kushner's emails as of yet.

'I need to see I think all emails between you and WH (just for me and us),' he responded. 'We need to send any officials emails to your WH account. Not stuff like you asked about. None of those are going anywhere,' he reassured his client.

But we can bury it?' the prankster posing as Kushner wanted to know. 'I'm so embarrassed. It's fairly specialist stuff, half naked women on a trampoline, standing on legoscenes, the tag for the movie was #standingOnTheLittlePeople :('
'Don't delete. Don't send to anyone. Let's chat in a bit,' Lowell wrote back, not flummoxed by the claim and offering what appears to be sound legal advice.
The prankster then made another outlandish claims. 'There's one more,' the person wrote. 'I'll be SUNK if it's found out. The protagonist of the piece looks exactly like a younger Hillary Clinton.' Then, backing off, the prankster wrote: 'Hair's got more of a choppy fringe, though.

After Kushner's private email use was revealed, Lowell issued a statement saying: 'All non-personal emails were forwarded to his official address and all have been preserved in any event.'

The exchange, through the ruse, suggests that he made the statement without the benefit of seeing Kushner's emails.

Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti told Business Insider he was 'shocked to learn that Kushner's lawyer did not review the relevant emails before issuing a statement making assertions about what was in them and how many there were.'

The same prankster was able to fool Ty Cobb, who is defending the Russia probe from the White House, by posing as White House head of social media Dan Scavino earlier this month.
At the end of that exchange, Cobb wrote that it is a felony to impersonate a government official.

The New York Times on Monday reported at least six White House administration officials communicated about government business through private emails, news Clinton said was, "the height of hypocrisy" since Trump during the campaign took jabs at the Democratic presidential nominee over her use of the private server and said in a debate she would be in jail if he was in charge.

But Clinton, per the Post, was discussing potentially sensitive national security matters on her private server and could have jeopardized national security. She also exclusively used a private email account. The FBI's investigation into Clinton's email use and whether she "intentionally or grossly" mishandled classified information found 110 of the emails contained classified information, including eight that were top secret. But the FBI director at the time, James Comey, recommended no charges against Clinton.

The White House aides who used private email accounts, according to the Times, were Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, and a White House senior adviser, former chief White House strategist Stephen Bannon, former chief of staff Reince Priebus, advisers Gary Cohn and Stephen Miller, and the president's eldest daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump.

White House officials can use private email accounts as long as they forward work-related messages to their work accounts. And the Times reported the aides' use of private emails was "sporadic," and there was no evidence any of the information sent or received might have compromised classified information.

"The Trump team's use of private email is still worth a full airing and lots of questions; it has more than a whiff of hypocrisy," the Post wrote. "Reasonable people can disagree about whether Clinton's email was overplayed as an issue in the 2016 election. But we have a long way to go before we're talking apples-to-apples."

Differences between Hillary Clinton’s email practices while secretary of state and Revelations that officials in the Trump administration have used private email accounts for White House business have prompted charges of hypocrisy after Donald Trump made a campaign issue of the email practices by Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Despite the uproar over the practice during the campaign, key Trump officials began using their own private email accounts just weeks after the election that they concede were sometimes used for official communication.

How email practices of Clinton and Trump advisers differ

Hillary Clinton's email practices while secretary of state differed from the reported use of private email accounts by several officials in the Trump administration. Based on what we know so far, here are the key differences.

HILLARY CLINTON
As secretary of state, Hillary Clinton maintained multiple private servers, including one stored at her home in New York state, for email that she used for most of her official communication. An FBI investigation of the practice found that some of the tens of thousands of emails handled by the private account included classified material.

A probe led by then-FBI Director James Comey found no evidence of intentional transmission of classified material and cleared Clinton and some of her aides of potential criminal charges. Comey called the practice "extremely careless." During the campaign, Trump repeatedly called for Clinton to be prosecuted and cited Comey's decision as evidence that the U.S. justice system was "rigged." Moreover, Clinton deleted more than 33,000 of her emails that she said were not related to her government work.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Despite the uproar over the practice during the campaign, key Trump officials began using their own private email accounts just weeks after the election and concede they were sometimes used for official communication. The New York Times reports that at least six Trump advisers, including Jared Kushner and former aides Steve Bannon and Reince Priebus, used private email to discuss White House matters.

There is no evidence so far that any classified material was transmitted through private email accounts, and the White House says the accounts were used only sporadically. A congressional panel has demanded information on the practice.

Private email accounts are reportedly alive and well in the Trump White House. Stories in recent days have linked the use of private accounts to many top staffers, with the New York Times naming six Monday evening: Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, Stephen Miller, Gary Cohn and former top aides Reince Priebus and Stephen K. Bannon.

This, for obvious reasons, has Hillary Clinton supporters apoplectic. Donald Trump made Clinton's private emails a centerpiece of his campaign, even suggesting she should be jailed for it. What could be more hypocritical than this?

But let's take a step back. Clinton's private email issue is often vastly oversimplified, and the two situations just aren't analogous at this point.

That's not to say what the Trump administration is doing is okay. At the very least, it lacks transparency — in contrast with the pledges by the candidate to “drain the swamp.” If aides are using their private accounts for official business without forwarding the emails to their official accounts for preservation, then they are violating the rules.
But even that isn't why Clinton's emails were such a big issue. As the Times's Matt Apuzzo and Maggie Haberman noted in their story, her private emails were problematic 1) because she set up her own server and used private email exclusively, and 2) because she was discussing potentially sensitive national security matters on that private server. That latter one was the big one — and the focus of the FBI investigation — because it meant classified information could potentially have been jeopardized.

Here's what FBI Director James B. Comey said in recommending no charges against Clinton in July 2016:

Our investigation looked at whether there is evidence that classified information was improperly stored or transmitted on that personal system in violation of a federal statute that makes it a felony to mishandle classified information either intentionally or in a grossly negligent way.

From the group of 30,000 emails returned to the State Department in 2014, 110 emails in 52 email chains have been determined by the owning agency to contain classified information at the time they were sent or received. Eight of those chains contained information that was top secret at the time they were sent; 36 of those chains contained secret information at the time; and eight contained confidential information at the time.

These findings were significant, because Clinton had maintained that she never sent or received classified email on the server. She later amended that statement to clarify that she never “knowingly” did. So this added credibility issues to her email issues. (The Post's Fact Checker has a great piece on the classification process, and it notes that much of this information wasn't classified until it was released publicly.)

Comey added that there was “evidence that [Clinton and her colleagues] were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.” He added that “we assess it is possible that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton's personal email account.” They just had no proof.

If this issue were just about Clinton flouting transparency and record-keeping rules, that would be one thing. But what really got her in trouble was the possibility that this could have jeopardized national security (not to mention her handling of the matter, which even aides admitted she botched). Even in letting her off the hook, Comey said it was possible she did just that.

Given her position as secretary of state and the extent of her private server use, Clinton's private server was inherently problematic. The Times reports that Trump administration sources say their use of private email, meanwhile, has been “sporadic,” and there's no evidence that it may have compromised classified information.

The named aides probably don't deal in classified and national security information nearly as much as Clinton did, though its possible someone like Kushner -- with a portfolio that includes Middle East peace and other foreign policy matters -- could be dealing with such information. But we have no indication yet that he talked about those issues while using private email.

The Trump team's use of private email is still worth a full airing and lots of questions; it has more than a whiff of hypocrisy. Reasonable people can disagree about whether Clinton's email was overplayed as an issue in the 2016 election. But we have a long way to go before we're talking apples-to-apples.

At least six current and former advisers to President Trump have reportedly used private email addresses occasionally for White House business, a revelation Trump critics are likely to pounce upon in light of the scandal that brought down Hillary Clinton in 2016 — despite significant differences.
Politico reported Sunday that Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, had occasionally used a private email address to send or receive work-related emails. The New York Times reported late Monday that Kushner was not the only adviser to use a private address.

Former White House Chief Strategist (now executive chairman of Breitbart News) Steve Bannon, former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. National Economic Adviser Gary Cohn, and adviser Stephen Miller, all have sent “at least a few emails on personal accounts,” according to the Times. Ivanka Trump — Trump’s daughter and Kushner’s wife — also used a private account when she served as an unpaid adviser, according to the Times.

Kushner’s case, in particular, is likely to raise eyebrows as he established his own domain, http://IJKFamily.com in December to host his family’s personal email, according to the Times. The outlet reports that the domain was hosted by GoDaddy on a server in Arizona.

Government officials are to use official email for government business for both security and oversight purposes. This rule was cast into the national headlines in the 2016 presidential campaign after it was revealed that Hillary Clinton had used a private homebrew server to conduct her business when she served as secretary of state.

While questions into “private email use” are likely to draw cries of hypocrisy from Trump opponents, noting that Trump savaged Clinton for her use, the revelations about Trump officials show yawning differences from Clinton’s.

In Kushner’s case, it appears he used private email occasionally, not exclusively; the number of emails are consequently significantly smaller than Clinton’s (dozens compared with tens of thousands). There is no indication he sent or received classified emails, and none of the emails appear to have been deleted. Most instances are claimed to be instances of someone sending him an email like a news hit or a piece of commentary. Also, there is no sign that he used a private server to conduct business.

The Times notes that it is not illegal to use a personal address as long as the emails are forwarded to the government address, something which Kushner claims to have done. However, the issue is likely to prove tricky for the White House, and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders indicated that the administration has a strict policy on such matters.

“All White House personnel have been instructed to use official email to conduct all government-related work,” Sanders said. “They are further instructed that if they receive work-related communication on personal accounts, they should be forwarded to official email accounts.”

The email usage could eventually find the White House facing the prospect of more committee hearings, amid the already long line of hearings related to the probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings (D-MD) wrote to White House counsel Don McGahn and leaders of two dozen federal agencies Monday requesting information about the use of personal email accounts by members of the Trump administration. The committee was central in the probe into Clinton’s emails.

The Gowdy/Cummings letter asks for the names of any non-career official who has used a personal account for official business and the names of any officials who use “text messages, phone-based message applications, or encryption software.” The letter reportedly says that the requests are in order to see whether the administration is following record retention laws.

Clinton herself seized on the revelations Monday, declaring: “It just goes to the rank hypocrisy that this Trump campaign and now this Trump White House is engaged in.”

Hillary Clinton has blasted the "hypocrisy" of the Trump administration after reports emerged that up to six of the President's advisors used private emails for White House business.

"It is something that, if they were sincere about, I think you would have Republican members of Congress calling for an investigation. I haven't heard that," Mrs Clinton said.

"It just goes to the rank hypocrisy that this Trump campaign and now this Trump White House is engaged in."

The former Democratic presidential nominee was speaking on a SiriusXM livestream when she was asked about the reports.

"The hypocrisy of this administration, who knew there was no real scandal, who knew there was no real basis for all their hyperventilating. Republican members of Congress who politicised the deaths in Benghazi, which I thought was outrageous," Ms Clinton said.

"And now we're finding, as with the latest revelations that they didn't mean any of it. It's just the height of hypocrisy."
Mrs Clinton was referring to the 2012 attacks where the US's ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other officials, including elite Navy SEALs, were killed in an attack on the consulate.

On Monday Mr Kushner admitted he responded to nearly 100 emails from White House officials on a personal account between January and August.

"These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal, rather than his White House, address," Mr Kushner's lawyer Abbe Lowell said in a statement.

Politico reported the emails included correspondence about media coverage, event planning and other subjects.

The next day, the New York Times reported five other senior advisors of Donald Trump, including Ivanka Trump, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, had also allegedly used private email accounts to conduct official business.

Here's how Mr Trump reacted in 2016 when the FBI announced it was re-opening the investigation into Mrs Clinton's use of a private server after discovering new emails:
A couple of days later, the FBI said the new emails did not change their earlier decision to not charge Mrs Clinton.

Despite this, Mr Trump promised to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Mrs Clinton's use of private emails and threatened to jail her during the campaign.

Crowds at his rallies still break into "lock her up" chants.

So what's the difference between the cases?

As secretary of state, Mrs Clinton maintained multiple private servers, including one stored at her home in New York state.

She used the emails for most of her official communication. An FBI investigation of the practice found that some of the tens of thousands of emails handled by the private account included classified material.

A probe led by then-FBI Director James Comey found no evidence of intentional transmission of classified material and cleared Mrs Clinton and some of her aides of potential criminal charges.

Mr Comey called the practice "extremely careless".

In the cases involving Trump advisors, so far there is no evidence so far that any classified material was transmitted through private email accounts in the cases linked to the Trump administration.

The White House says the accounts were used only sporadically.

However Representative Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, joined with his Democratic colleague in calling for the White House to release more details about the senior Trump advisors who allegedly used private email accounts.

So it turns out that everything Devin Nunes told us about Obama unmasking Americans during the elections was 100% true. Now, thanks to a new report, we finally know WHICH of Obama’s top people was doing the unmasking.

According to the report from FOX, former UN Ambassador Samantha Power used unmasking more than 260 times during 2016 right up until Trump’s inauguration in January.

The two sources, who chose to remain anonymous, both said that Power was ordering an unmasking almost every single working day of 2016.

Samantha Power is expected to make an appearance on Capitol Hill next month to answer Congressional questions about her role in the unmasking of Trump officials during an election.

Of course, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes had already revealed his discovery of hundreds of unmaskings of Americans in 2016 to DNI Director Dan Coates, but he did not yet have a name. Now, we do.

This revelation comes out right after one about a wiretap on Paul Manafort during his one week as a Trump campaign official as well as the Awan family cutting a deal with the government. One cannot help but wonder if they are all connected or if the timing really is purely coincidence.

Of course, the next question we need to be answered is, “What roles did Susan Rice, John Brennan, and Barack Obama play in this?”

They are all FAR from innocent and if they were spying on a different party’s political campaign and using ANY of that info to their advantage, even now, someone NEEDS to go to jail.
